This conference brings together a number of medical and disease historians and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines to explore the life and work of the late Thomas McKeown (1911-1988), who was between 1950 and 1978, Professor of Social Medicine in the University of Birmingham Medical School. He is still regarded as a major social philosopher of medicine, known for his important works on epidemiology and the practice and purpose of medicine.
