News from IEG-MAPS
We are pleased to announce to the internet community, especially to our registered guests all over the world, that in June 2002 several new maps and animations have been placed on our mapserver:
- The series "Railways in Germany 1835 to 1885" has been extended from 1846 to 1865, yearly increments have been mapped. The relevant gif-animation now runs to 1865. In addition, shorter animations covering subperiods (i.e.,1835-1845, 1846-1855, 1856-1865) have been put on the server since have been considerable demand for the set.
- An animation showing the development of German inland waterways has been placed on the server as well.
- With regard to political developments, a map showing Germany in 1914 and one showing central Europe in 1839 (birth of the Belgian state) have been added to the respective series.
- The series on German regions is now introduced by a "navigational map" which displays the cuts of the regional areas used in the series.
Finally, we are happy to report that the quality of the gif-images displayed on our server could be greatly improved, in particular those for the small-size (thumbnail) maps. This greatly enhances the usability of our server, which now almost runs like a digital atlas.
