I am the editor of a point-counterpoint volume in the History in Dispute series published by St. James Press -- the volume I am editing is entitled, "The Middle East Since 1945." I have some 56 pairs of essays on salient and controverial topics in modern Middle East history and contemporary politics and culture (each topic has a "yes" and "no" point-counterpoint positions).
The list of contributors is quite impressive--scholars, commentators, diplomats from all over the globe. Each essay should be between 1500-2500 words, and is due to me no later than December 15, 2002. For each essay accepted for publication, the contributor will receive $100.
I have one topic area still available: an assessment of Libya's Mu`ammar Qadhdhafi. I have a scholar that will be contributing the more negative view of Qadhdhafi, but I am having some difficulty (for possibly obvious reasons!) finding someone to write a more positive assessment of his time in power, especially in recent years. If you are willing and able to write a more sympathetic treatment, then please contact me ASAP. If I do not find someone soon, I will just eliminate the topic altogether, which I would rather not do.
Thank you,
David Lesch
