Proposals are invited for papers to be delivered at a symposium on the topic "Violence, Politics, and Culture in Early Modern Europe" to be held on the campus of the University of Mississippi on March 27, 2003. The symposium will culminate in the 2003 James Edwin Savage Lecture in the Renaissance, "A Lone Assassin? Popular Political Culture and the Assassination of the Duke of Buckingham," to be delivered by Thomas Cogswell, Professor of History at the University of California, Riverside. The symposium organizers--faculty members in the departments of English and History at the University of Mississippi--seek proposals of 250-500 words (for finished papers of no more than 3,000 words) from scholars from a variety of academic disciplines. Proposals from advanced graduate students will be given full consideration. Each proposal should include a brief curriculum vitae. Please send proposals by November 15, 2002 to the address below. Further information can be obtained via e-mail.
