Horizontes culturales de la historiografía
IV Encuentro de Historiografía. II Seminario Internacional
Maestría en Historiografía de México, UAM-Azcapotzalco
25 a 27 de septiembre, 2002
The symposium that the Masters programme in Mexican Historiography (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, México) organizes every two years has been debating different issues that are central for historiographic research and analysis. After analyzing general aspects concerning historiography as a discipline (Aspectos generales de la Historiografía, 1996), and having discussed problems related to the definition of historiographic genera, formats and discourses (Géneros, formatos y discursos, 1998), the symposium turned its attention to the position of the discipline in modern academia ("Preguntas de la historiografía, respuestas de la historiografía", 2000).
Our Fourth Symposium (Cuarto Encuentro), to be celebrated in September 2002, will be devoted to discussing the question of the "cultural horizons" in which historiography is inscribed, taking into account the importance that a transdisciplinary approach has for the analysis of the signifying process through which cultural representation operates at different moments in time. We Intend to open a space for thinking and discussing the link established between historiography and historicity; i.e., the relations between the discoursive representation of the past, the cultural context witin which it is formulated, and the constitution of the collective memory of a people.
We want to invite all researchers interested in this topic to participate. Proposals should preferably fall within the following lines of investigation:
- Symbolic space
- Historiographic tendencies, schools and traditions
- Historiographic theory
- National and cultural horizons
- Outstanding historiographic debates
- The representation of the past in non-Western cultural traditions.
