The Annual Graduate Student Conference of
The University of Texas at Austin-Department of American Studies
Friday, September 27th, 2002
UT Austin Student Union
The American Studies Graduate Student Committee invites proposals for our 2002 conference, "American Identities." This conference is designed to produce an exchange of ideas, in an academic forum, on any topic relating to the past or present cultures of North America and how identities have been formed and shaped in these cultures. As interdisciplinary work is at the heart of American Studies, we encourage different methodological approaches and invite submissions from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, including but not limited to: African and African American Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Architecture and Urban Studies, Art and Art History, Asian and Asian American Studies, Communication Studies, English, Education, History, Government, Journalism, Latin American Studies, Law, Mexican American Studies, Music, Philosophy, Public Affairs, Queer Studies, Radio-Television-Film, and Religious Studies. Both individual papers and organized panels are welcome, although we highly encourage the submission of organized panels. All panels will have moderators. To help off-set the costs of the conference, there will be a $10 registration fee required for those individuals selected to participate in the conference that will be due with an acceptance form. A limited number of "scholarships" will be available for participants unable to cover the fee.
To propose a paper, please submit: a cover page with your name, address, phone number, and e-mail at which you can be reached during the summer; a one-page abstract of the paper; and any requests for A/V equipment.
To propose a panel, please submit: a cover page with the names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mails at which all panelists can be reached during the summer; a one-page abstract for each paper; a one-page abstract of the panel that states its theme and purpose; the name and contact information for a proposed moderator (optional); and any requests for A/V equipment.
All submissions are due June 1st, 2002.
In person: Drop off abstracts in the American Studies office (GAR 303) in the American Identities Conference box.
