11TH Annual British Women Writers Conference
March 20-23, 2003
In questioning the gendering of discourse in philosophy and contemporary theorizations of women’s writing, we aim to broaden our understanding of the history of ideas via 18th and 19th century modes of thinking.
While scholarship on all aspects of 18th and 19th century British women writers is welcome, we are particularly interested in explorations of topics such as the following:
- Science and Medicine
- Representations of the Body
- Sexuality
- Culture of Sensibility
- The “Deviant” Woman
- Literary Practice
- Genre Studies and the Reader
- Race, Religion, and the Other
- Women in the Academy
- Philosophical Literature / Literary Philosophy
Keynote speakers will include Tricia Lootens (University of Georgia) and Laura Brown (Cornell University).
Send 1-2 page abstracts for papers and/or proposals for panels (including cover sheet with name, mailing address, and email) by OCTOBER 31st 2002, to the following address. Comments or questions should be directed to the E-mail address below.
