The Great Depression and the Arts: A Unit of Study for Grades 8-12
Developed by teachers and historians working with the National Center for History in the Schools (NCHS) and the Organization of American Historians, with the assistance of the New Deal Network, "The Great Depression and the Arts" consists of four document based lesson plans: "Documentary Film- "The Plow that Broke the Plains"; "Documenting the Migrant Experience"; "Film Study of the Grapes of Wrath"; and "The New Deal's Federal Theatre Project." The teaching unit was created by teachers Robert Gabrick and Barbara Markham, with the assistance of historian James C. Curtis. It includes a Teachers Guide and Evaluation Activities and a wealth of primary materials. This online version of the popular NCHS teaching unit was developed by the New Deal Network.
