The 11th Annual South Texas Ranching Heritage Festival featuring an unique "ranch rodeo," cowboy storytellers, crafts people, folk artists, and the presentation of scholarly papers is scheduled for February 14-16, 2003 at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
The Ranching Heritage Committee is pleased to announce the "Mifflin and Petra Vela Kenedy Ranching Heritage Award" for the best paper by a graduate student. With the sponsorship of the Frost National Bank, a $200 award will be given to the author of a winning paper. The paper will be read at a scholarly paper session and subsequently published in The Journal of South Texas. The Ranching Heritage Committee will pay the award recipient's travel expenses, up to $300, to Kingsville, Texas.
The presentation of the papers is scheduled for Friday, February 14, 2003. Papers should deal with some aspect of South Texas Ranching Heritage--history, politics, geography, culture or literature. Three copies of the paper, double spaced in 12 pt. type, must be *received* by December 31, 2002.
