The Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Southern Historical Association welcomes individual papers and panels for its meeting in Houston, Texas, November 6-9, 2003.
This program, held 200 years after the Louisiana Purchase dramatically altered the social, political, economic, cultural, and racial landscape of North America, hopes to emphasize the interconnectedness of various parts of Northern and Southern Latin America and the Caribbean. Panels need not be limited to the Purchase itself, but might explore the ways in which the Purchase either portended or was the culmination of an already-changing hemisphere. Likewise the program committee also encourages scholars to submit papers and panels on all area of Latin American and Caribbean history from the 15th through the 20th centuries.
Faculty as well as advanced graduate students are encouraged to submit panels and papers. Deadline for submission is October 1, 2002.
