This session proposes to explore contributions Max Kozloff has made to the history, theory and criticism of photography during the past thirty years. Papers might revisit questions and problems generated by his many reviews, catalog essays and books concerning photography, or account for themes to which he returned throughout his career. Also, how should we relate Kozloff's discussions of photography to those published by other individuals, including art critics and historians? In what ways does Kozloff's own activity as a photographer impact his writing about photography or art in other media? How can we identify and articulate the significance that his marriage to artist Joyce Kozloff has had on his work? This session is being organized for the 2002 Southeast College Art Association, University of South Alabama in Mobile, October 23-26, at which Max and Joyce Kozloff will deliver the keynote presentation.
