September 11: One Year After
The New York Metro American Studies Association (NYMASA), in partnership with the Sept. 11 Digital Archive (911digitalarchive.org), is seeking proposals for papers and presentations for "September 11: One Year After," an interdisciplinary conference to be held at the Museum of the City of New York on October 19, 2002.
The conference will include a variety of formats, such as panels,
roundtables, and online components. If you would like to propose an
alternative format, please let us know.
Possible topics may include:
- Teaching 9/11 in the classroom
- Archiving, memorializing, and representing the September 11th
- Media coverage of the attacks and their aftermath
- The response of Cultural Institutions
- Patriotism, Irony and Heroism reconsidered
- Muslims in America
- Academic freedom
- Civil liberties, immigration and racial profiling
- New York City and America; New York City and the World
- Gender Issues
- Architectural and city planning concerns
- The economics of disaster and relief; class dynamics
Proposals are due June 1, 2002. Submissions via email are preferred. Send
