Beginning April 15, 2002, the American Political Development website
(http://www.americanpoliticaldevelopment.org) will host its next electronic forum entitled "Democracy and Development." We invite you to participate in this month-long electronic discussion based on a new book by Richard Bensel entitled "The Political Economy of American Industrialization, 1877 - 1900." The discussion will begin with two reviews of the book posted on the site by Richard John (University of Illinois at Chicago) and Dan Carpenter (University of Michigan) that highlight issues raised by the book. The book and the reviews will serve as a platform for launching an electronic discussion of some of the central questions surrounding late nineteenth century industrialization in the U.S. as well as comparative issues raised by the book. As with each APD electronic forum, prior to "Democracy and Development" the APD site will provide links to related material relevant to the topic. Persons interested in the forum topic will have the opportunity to review the material and join the electronic discussion by submitting electronic questions or comments via our discussion board. Questions, responses and comments will be posted on the site and archived for later viewing. Please visit http://www.americanpoliticaldevelopment.org and join the "Democracy and Development" discussion.
