The Department of History and the Department of English
at California State University–Bakersfield has extended the deadline for the submission of papers for "Images of the San Joaquin Valley: A Conference on its History and Literature." The new deadline is April 15, 2002.
The conference will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at CSU Bakersfield, 9001 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield, CA 93311.
The conference, featuring keynote speaker Gerald Haslam, will focus on the literature and historical development of the San Joaquin Valley region of California. Topics might include San Joaquin Valley writers, literary works set in the Valley, poetry, agricultural history, environmental history, social history, and the history of the region’s diverse ethnic communities. Individual papers, as well as proposals for panels are invited from faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars.
