Members of the new WHOM steering committee wish to announce the restoration of the Women's and Gender Historians of the Midwest. Formerly based in Minneapolis and known as Women Historians of the Midwest, the new Women's and Gender Historians of the Midwest will now continue as a regional, scholarly organization open to anyone in the Midwest (generously defined) who works on gender and/or women's history. We are working with the constitution and membership list of WHOM as a starting point.
Our primary goal is the creation of a regional conference that will rotate around the Midwest. Our hope is that this conference will feature interactive discussion sessions, works-in-progress sessions, teaching sessions, student sessions, and other types of panels that promote discussion and sharing of information and expertise in addition to the traditional paper/commentator format. Tentatively, we hope to sponsor the first conference at Loyola University in Chicago in Summer 2004. We also intend to support opportunities for dialogue among members by creating a website and electronic newsletter. Other activities and ideas remain under discussion.
We plan to have our next meeting May 3-5, 2002, and encourage interested scholars to contact members of the Steering Committee for more information or if you would like to be on our email list.
