The editor of the reference book series, History Behind the Headlines: The Origins of Conflicts Worldwide, seeks qualified writers with academic or journalistic backgrounds in political science, international studies, or the social sciences to write on a variety of topics concerning international conflicts. The 30 topics in each volume are selected from current headlines in newspapers, magazines, and television news, and include ethnic, religious, economic, political, territorial, and environmental conflicts. Entries provide the historical background of headline stories so that the general reader can make sense of current international events. Currently going into its sixth volume, History Behind the Headlines serves high school and entry-level college students as well as the general public in libraries throughout the United States and the world.
A writer for this series should have an interest in providing clear and useful information to the public and previous writing experience.
Entries range in length from 3,000 to 8,000 words. Writers will receive a byline and payment of US$400.00 per entry. Entries for Volume 6 are already being assigned.
If you are interested in writing an entry for this worthwhile project, please send a letter specifying your areas of interest and your qualifications to the editor, at the address below.
If you are selected to write an entry for the current volume, I will get back to you immediately. If not, I will keep your name and interests on file for the upcoming volumes.
