This seminar is an inter-university gathering of faculty, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students that will meet on a regular basis to discuss original scholarship on facets of British political, social, cultural and intellectual history of the late 18th to late 20th centuries. The aim is to provide an informal and constructive forum to discuss the scholarship of both younger and established scholars prior to its submission for publication review. Two or three meetings will be held each academic term (and during the summer if there is interest), and at each meeting one or two article-length unpublished papers will be discussed. Each paper will be circulated to the regular participants of the seminar 10-14 days beforehand via email, and the author will have a few minutes to introduce (but not read) their paper at the seminar, after which questions and discussion of the paper will ensue. The location of each meeting will rotate around the various institutions in the area. The inaugural meeting of the seminar group will take place on Thursday February 28, 7-9 pm, in the Senior Common Room at Victoria College at the University of Toronto. Please contact Dr. Stephen Heathorn (heaths@mcmaster.ca) for details of the paper(s) to be presented at this first meeting, to be signed up to the distribution list of papers, and for directions to the meeting room.
