THE DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JANUARY 31, 2002!!
CALL FOR PAPERS
INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES TO HISTORY AND FILM:
Lawrence of Arabia (Lean, 1962)
MARCH 9, 2002 at THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
The motivation behind this conference is the belief that motion pictures are valid historical texts upon which multiple, fluid and often contradictory discourses take place. This year the conference focuses on issues arising from critical reassessments of Sir David Leanís film, Lawrence of Arabia (1962). Conference participants will examine some of the filmís discourses within the following four theme pairs:
Imperialism and the Middle East
The First World War and the Middle East
Gender and Post-Colonial Studies
Media and Film Criticism
It is important to note that paper proposals need not address the film directly, but must address discourses surrounding the four theme pairs.
The Film Conference committee of the Delta Chi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta invites proposals for panels and papers for its first conference on Interdisciplinary Approaches to History and Film.
We welcome proposals from all scholars, whatever their field or discipline. One need not be a member of Phi Alpha Theta to participate. We strongly encourage cross-disciplinary proposals.
Proposals for single papers that fall into the four categories above are encouraged. Additional panel proposals will receive strong consideration.
Proposals are to include title of panel, 200 word abstract, full name of participant(s), institutional affiliations (if any), postal, email and webpage addresses and phone numbers. Please include a curriculum vita. Full panel proposals must also include an abstract for the panel, full names and addresses of all participants including the moderator and commentator.
Proposals are due by THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 2002 to the address below.
You may also email the conference committee directly at IAHF2001@yahoo.com.
