Mourning, Media, and Affective Nationality

Panel proposal for the 2002 meeting of the American Studies Association, Houston TX, 11/14-11/17/02.

I am seeking one more panelist for a proposed session on mourning and nationality. The proposed panel considers the invocation of mourning as a mode of national belonging in American media. At present we have papers on focusing on sensationalized child-murders and on the WTC bombing. Papers focusing on 19th or early 20th century sources are especially welcome.
