The University of Sussex invites scholars to attend a two-day colloquium on the massive resistance movement against racial integration.
The colloquium will bring together historians from both sides of the Atlantic, including Karen Anderson, Tony Badger, Dan T. Carter, David Chappell, Jane Dailey, Adam Fairclough, John P. Jackson, John Kirk, Michael Klarman, George Lewis, and Lauren Winner. Papers will explore numerous aspects of massive resistance tactics and ideology. Specific themes include the scientific defense of racial segregation; massive resistance and gender; and civil rights as a Cold War phenomenon.
