The Forum on European Expansion and Global Interaction will hold its
fourth biennial meeting at the Huntington Library, San Marino,
California, on February 14-17, 2002. The Forum is concerned with the
expansion of Europe and the world-wide response to that process, from
its beginnings in the 14th century to the middle of the 19th century.
Scholars from a wide variety of fields share their research findings on
topics such as transnational commerce, missionary activity around the
world, varieties of resistance to European expansion, the role of law
and the military in the governance of empires, race, gender, and the
emergence of colonial identities. The program and information on hotel
