SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
Dear colleague,
We are glad to inform you that the preparation for the 9th Conference of Africanists is going well. By now the interest for it was expressed, apart from Russian academics, by researchers from a number of countries, in particular from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ukraine, Egypt, USA, UK, France, Germany, Israel. We have received a number of abstracts, suggestions on panels and round tables.
We would like to remind you that submission deadline for panel and roundtable proposals as well as abstracts (with a short CV) is December 1st in order to allow for a good programme preparation. In case you would like to get some extra time for preparation of your abstract or paper you should contact the Organising Committee. Submission deadline for papers is January 15th 2002. All proposals should be sent to the Organising Commitee electronically or on the disc by regular post. Please, ensure all files are saved as "rtf" if submitted as attachments.
We'll make every effort to arrange interesting and coherent panels.
The conference working languages are Russian and English. A collection of abstracts is to be published before the conference and a collection of selected papers afterwards.
Apart from travel and accommodation expenses the participants are expected to pay a USD 150 registration fee (USD 75 for students) on arrival. This includes copies of abstracts and a report of proceedings in English as well as translation of a participant's abstracts into Russian.The Organising Committee can book acommodation for you in the Hotel “Academicheskaya” (the rate is $40 per night in a single room a $45 for 2 persons in a two-bed room at the moment though it is apt to rising).
The Organising Committee will appreciate if you inform your colleagues in African studies about this letter.
