The Mid-America American Studies Association’s annual meeting will take place April 5 –6, 2002 in St. Louis. The conference theme is "Americans Study Their Environments."
The program committee encourages the submission of papers and other presentations on the relation of environment to culture in America, as well as on the ways Americans have reflected on that relation throughout their history. Comparative, transnational work is also welcome, as are papers that locate American environmental ideas and practices in a global context. Finally, MAASA welcomes papers that examine pedagogic issues in teaching about the environment.
Although papers and complete sessions related to the conference theme would be especially appreciated, MAASA will also—as it always has—continue to welcome presentations on any aspect of American Studies. MAASA also encourages self-nominations from people willing to chair or comment on sessions.
Proposals should comprise a one-page summary and a one-page c.v. for each presenter, chair, and commentator. The deadline for submission is January 18, 2002. Send proposals, self-nominations, or inquiries to: Matthew Mancini at the address or email below.
