An interdisciplinary conference for graduate students to be held February 15-16, 2002, at the University of Victoria, jointly hosted by the English Graduate Program and the Cultural, Social and Political Thought Program of the University of Victoria.
Graduate students from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for papers or panel discussions, between 300-500 words. Papers focusing on the interdisciplinary relations between political, literary, and cultural studies are encouraged. Selected papers will be published in AGORA, an online journal for graduate students(www.arts.ualberta.ca/~agora).
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Dr. Dianne Chisholm Professor of English, University of Alberta, author of: Queer Constellations: Fictions of Space in the Wake of the City (forthcoming) H.D.'s Freudian Poetics: Psychoanalysis in Translation (Cornell UP, 1992)

- Approximate cultures: marginality and discourse
- Urban modernity, identity and technology
- Gender performance: hybridity and migration
- Race and ethnicity: trans-cultural identities
- Queer theory: action and innovation
- Class struggle and the re-imagination of radicalism
- History, transformation and escape
- Cinematic narrative and identity revolution
- Disciplines between discourses
- Pedagogical change outside of academic institutions
Deadline for receipt of proposals for papers is Wednesday, November 28th, 2001. Submissions will be vetted blindly; please do not identify yourself in the body of your proposal. A cover page or email attachment must include the title of your proposal, your contact information, institutional affiliation, and a 50-word biographical note.
