On November 12, 2001, the U.S. Civil War Center will present Blue and Gray for Boys and Girls: Selections from the Michael Lehman Williamson Collection of Civil War Books for Young People. The exhibit will feature more than 70 children's books on the American Civil War published from 1862 to 2001, and will be available for viewing at Hill Memorial Library at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge through March 2, 2002.
In conjunction with the exhibit, Professor James Marten of Marquette University will deliver a lecture titled "Making Their Way: The Civil War in Children's Books and Magazines" at 7:00 pm on November 15, 2001. The lecture will be held at Hill Memorial Library; the event and reception are free and open to the public.
Prints from Civil War artist Edwin Forbes's post-war portfolio Life Studies of the Great Army will be displayed simultaneously in the first floor gallery.
