The Encyclopedia of Erotic Literature, edited by Gaetan Brulotte and John Phillips, is scheduled for publication in summer 2003 by Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers.
This large-scale reference work will contain around 700 entries. There will be historical overviews of erotic literature in different countries and/or languages (African languages, Chinese languages, Dutch, Irish, Spanish), Literary Surveys (libraries, poetry, publishers, translation), entries on individual writers (Pietro Arentino, Henry Miller, Marquis de Sade), significant works (Mahabarata, Kama Sutra, The Carnal Prayer Mat, Story of O), Topics and themes (bathing, censorship, disease, nudity, homoeroticism).
The book aims to be international in scope and to reflect current research in the field. It will thus be an up-to-date work of reference for all those involved in teaching or researching the literature and its history.
Entries will consist of an analytical essay (from 1000 to 8000 words), a bibliography and/or list of further reading, and, in the case of individual writers, a separate concise paragraph of bibliographical information.
Those interested in writing for the encyclopedia can find more information on the website provided below including sample essays, full list of entries, list of Advisers, and further guidelines on entry style and content.
If you would like to write for the book, please send you choice of entries to the email address provided below, indicating the maximum number of articles you could take on and your order of preference.
We hope to assign entries in November 2001 and the deadline for submission of articles will be March 2002. Contributors will each receive a copy of the Encyclopedia, and further payment if more than one standard entry is commissioned.
