In April 1982 the British naval city of Portsmouth was the main embarkation point for British soldiers sailing to war in the Falklands. This Conference will bring together participants, historians, political scientists, and media and cultural analysts to re-assess the significance of the war for both Britain and Argentina twenty years on. Papers are invited which examine the causes, experience, representation, impact and memory of the war. The Conference will focus upon the following inter-connected themes:
Political impact of the war
Public and private memories
The experience and memories of combatants
The home front and civilian experience
International dimensions to the conflict
Papers which take an inter-disciplinary approach are particularly welcome.
Please send an abstract of no more than 200 words to the address below.
Deadline for submission: 1 December 2001.
