The conference will open with a keynote presentation by Stephen Holmes (New York University, School of Law). Specific themes will then be explored through a series of eight panels selected from the following list:
Race, Gender, and Pluralism in an Enlarged Europe
Both scholars who have recently finished their doctoral dissertations and senior PhD students who have completed their field research are eligible to submit paper proposals. We are committed to methodological diversity, and encourage both comparative and single case studies, employing normative and/or empirical approaches. We intend to pursue publishing opportunities for selected papers from the conference.
Accommodation and most meals for participants will be provided. Limited travel subsidies, based on demonstrated need, will also be available.
Applications should consist of an abstract (300 words), a short biographical note (150 words), contact information, and a statement of panel preference.
Those wishing to apply for travel funding should also append a summary of anticipated travel expenses and a list of other sources of funding applied for. Deadline for submissions is October 15, 2001. Notification of acceptance of the paper will be sent by November 15, 2001. Detailed information on the conference will be forwarded to applicants as it becomes available.
