The aim of this conference is two-fold: (i) to search out new writing by women in French which will be of interest to students, teachers and researchers in the field, and (ii) to provide a forum for current academic studies and critical work on contemporary women's literature in French. The focus will be mainly, but not exclusively, on writers living and working in metropolitan France. Contributions on texts published from 1995 onwards will be favoured. Proposals are welcome on a wide range of writing: fiction, life/writing, theatre, poetry, new texts by established writers, as well as by the exciting new generation of writers that is currently garnering so much interest in France and beyond. Themes can be wide-ranging but papers will generally address topics relating to gender and/or new forms and aesthetics of writing. An associated event, integral to the conference, will take place at the Institut Francais in London, and it is hoped that two or three writers will be present to discuss their work.
Proposals for papers (not more than 300 words) should be sent by 31 January 2002 to Dr. Gill Rye at address below, or by e-mail to gill.rye@dial.pipex.com (no attachments). Early submissions are welcome
