The Role of the Intellectual in Contemporary Political Life: A Conference in Honor of Professor Hisham Sharabi
On September 21-22, 2001, the History Department of Georgetown University will host a conference in honor of our recently retired colleague, Prof. Hisham Sharabi. The conference theme reflects Prof. Sharabi's dual life, as an intellectual and as a political activist. Fifteen scholars from the Middle East, Europe, and North America will present papers. The sessions will focus on Arab intellectuals in the contemporary world, viewed within the larger context of the emerging connections among politically conscious intellectuals around the globe. Dr. Mario Soares, former President of Portugal, will give a special address on Friday, 21 September, at 5 pm.
The conference program is available on line at the department website, www.georgetown.edu/history.
