Universia.net is a project founded last year by 66 Spanish universities, the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Banco Santander Central Hispano. There are now over 300 universities in Spain and Latin America actively participating in the project. It is a website intended to be useful not only to Hispanic members of the university community, but also to scholars and researchers of Hispanic themes all over the world. It is a site where students and researchers can access specialised material, submit online courses, attend video conferences or simply keep up to date with developments in Hispanic higher education systems and research forums.
Universia's headquarters are in Madrid (http://www.universia.es), but we have fully functioning offices in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, España, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, all of which will have their own national portal within the next year. We have launched Chile (http://www.universia.cl) and Puerto Rico (http://www.universia.pr) already, and Peru in September. All ten national portals will have been launched by mid-2002, containing information and studies specific to their respective countries.
The site has 15 main sections, Universidades, Noticias, Estudios, Centros, Bibliotecas, Investigación, Estudiantes, Empresa, Cultura, Internet, Internacionales, Gestión, Servicios, Amigos, Mi universia.
We are always delighted to receive any opinions on how we could improve this site, what we could include more of in order to make it more useful to scholars and researchers of Hispanic themes all over the world.
