Kimberly Rhodes (Art History, Hollins University) and Lisa Strong (Art History, James Madison University) seek paper proposals for the INCS (Interdisciplinary Nineteenth Century Studies) conference "Nineteenth Century Knowledges." (George Mason, University, April 2002). The proposed panel is entitled "Sentimental Educations." Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
the transmission and codification of knowledge based in sentiments (vs. rationality) via art, literature, education, publications, etc.
gender and sentimentality (is there a sentimental manhood?) sentimentality and artistic/literary stylistic conventions.
To have your paper considered, please send a 2-400 word proposal and c.v. to Kimberly Rhodes and Lisa Strong by September 15, 2001.
