The Department of Historical Studies at the Rand Afrikaans University hosts a conference on behalf of the South African Historical Society, on 24-26 June 2002 on:
Heritage creation and research: the restructuring of Historical Studies in Southern Africa.
Historical research is currently conducted on an extensive front in Southern Africa. The call for the African renaissance has prompted new research on oral testimony, heritage and community history. This revival encompasses all societies, cultures and social formations. Researchers in heritage and historical studies have the opportunity at the proposed conference to confer on methodology, narrative explanation and restructuring of this renaissance activity. It is the intention of the Department of Historical Studies to encourage debate, research and interaction amongst scientific practitioners in this field of heritage and historical research at this conference.

The Conference organisers will submit proposals to the selection committee, which will communicate the final decision on papers accepted for the conference no later than 30 November 2001.
Late submissions can still be made until the end of February 2002, but then submissions must be accompanied by a draft paper and received not later than 27 February 2002.
