Conference Announcement. The fourth biennial conference of the International Thorstein Veblen Association will be held May 11–12, 2002 at the Graduate Faculty for Political and Social Science at the New School University, 65 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York, co-hosted by Michael Hughey and Arthur J. Vidich.
The purpose of the ITVA is:
- to facilitate and revive, in a Veblenian spirit, a critical and historical attitude in the social sciences;
- to examine and evaluate Veblen’s ideas and methods with respect to their applicability and utility for comprehending and analyzing the contemporary world order;
- to make explicit the attitudes, perspectives, and assumptions underlying Veblen’s social, economic, political, and religious frameworks;
- to illuminate the relationship between Veblen’s ideas and his linguistic, rhetorical, and poetic style;
- to foster and facilitate communication among Veblen scholars throughout the world.
Call for Papers. Papers for the conference should be sent to Prof. Michael Hughey. Submit title and abstract by February 1, 2002. Deadline for paper submissions is March 1, 2002.
