The Midwest Medieval History Conference is the oldest regional association devoted to medieval studies. This year the conference marks its fortieth anniversary as a forum for new directions in historical research and a place of genuine collegiality
The plenary speaker will be Paul Freedman (Yale University), author of The Diocese of Vic: Tradition and Regeneration in Medieval Catalonia (1983); The Origins of Peasant Servitude in Medieval Catalonia (1991); Church, Law, and Society in Catalonia, 900-1500 (1994); and Images of the Medieval Peasant (1999), as well as numerous other studies.
