Call for brief article explaining the field of Urban Education for an arts and education publication. What is Urban Education as a field? When did it arise? What is the role of the arts in the training and practice of Urban Educators? What are the different streams of thought and debates about the arts within the general field? A New York State focus and/or author is preferred but not necessary. The article will be brief (up to 1000 words), will focus on art, include an illustrating photograph or image, be written in human, informal, non-jargon, language for an audience of teaching artists, and be completed by late August 2001, with more leeway if a rough draft is submitted earlier. Compensation in the $200 range.
Chalkboard is a 4-page, newspaper sized, twice yearly supplement to FYI, a free artist's quarterly in New York State published by the New York Foundation for the Arts.
