26th National Conference on Men and Masculinities

NOMAS is Pro-Feminist, Gay-Affirmative, Anti-Racist and dedicated to enhancing men's lives. The conference is for men and women who struggle for gender equality and social justice. The M&M conference provides a national forum for gay-straight, cross-cultural, and cross-gender dialogues.
Join NOMAS in Denver for 3 days workshops, keynotes, cultural events and general discussion on the issues surrounding men and masculinity in the 21st century.
Nationally noted speakers and panelists will conduct sessions on topics including anti-sexism, anti-violence, sexual harassment, fathering, men & spirituality, sports, body image, health & workplace issues, racism, media issues, men in prisons, homophobia and more.
Three all-day institutes/meetings on July 20th will
include:
Ending Men's Violence, Undoing Racism, and the 13th national Men's Studies Association meeting.
Confirmed Keynotes are
- Jackson Katz, creator of the video, "Tough Guise: Violence, Media & the Crisis in Masculinity"
- Jerry Bigner on Gay Fathering
- Brian Klocke, who will be speaking about Corporate Globalization and the System of Patriarchy. His talk on the evening of July 20, will be followed by a panel
discussing corporate globalization's impact on women and other marginalized communities and alternative models of global interdependence
Panel presenters:
- Dr. Ana Sampaio (Department of Political Science, University of Colorado at Denver), who has studied transnational women's resistance in the context of
globalization and has worked with women of Chiapas, Mexico
- Dr. Margie Zamudio, (Department of Sociology, University of Colorado at Boulder), who has studied the role of ethnicity, race, and citizenship in class
formation among hotel workers and immigrants in Los Angeles
- Melody Feldman (Building Bridges for Peace/Seeking Common Ground), who has worked with American, Israeli and Palestinian high school women addressing
issues of peace and cross-cultural solidarity
- Molly Zackary (Senior at Colorado State University) is a member of UPROOT, an activist organization in Fort Collins that works on issues of global justice
Cultural event and performances including a children's concert by Peter Alsop, folk singer Goef Morgan, FENIX Teatro's "Closet Cases", Poetry slam with Trinidad Sanchez, Haitian Men's Dance Troup, and much more...
