The aim of the conference is to explore concepts of political identity on local, national and international levels. We will be examining the impact of such ideas on the conduct of practical politics, diplomacy and warfare, as well as in the more abstract fields of political thought and literature, and the inter-relationship between theory and practice. We particularly hope to
encourage discussion between those with interest in continental Western Europe and in the British Isles.
It will be held at Hatfield College, University of Durham on 28-30 August, 2001. Keynote sessions will be given by Professor Robin Frame and Dr. Len Scales, with a planned excursion to Warkworth Castle led by Professor Michael Prestwich (subject to interest). Registration is £25 for all three days, or £10/day. The conference is open to any who are interested.
