This is an announcement that Delaware State University in partnership with
the National Park Service to Preserve the Underground Railroad will offer
seminars on interpreting the Underground through historic sites and museums
along with seminars on heritage tourism. These seminars will be held on
Saturday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. at Delaware State University beginning
September 22 running through December 1. The following will conduct the
seminars:
- Kimberly Kelly, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution
in Washington, D.C.
- Alonzo Smith, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution
in Washington, D.C.
- Carl Westmoreland, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in
Cincinnati, Ohio
- Lucretia Wilson, Star Hill A.M.E. Church in Delaware
- Barbara Benson, Historical Society of Delaware
- Vincent Leggett, Blacks of the Chesapeake in Annapolis, Maryland
- Patrick Andrus, National Register of Historic Places in Washington, D.C.
We will also offer field trips to various historic sites and museums related
to the Underground Railroad within the region surrounding Delaware.
This program is open to the public through the Office of Continuing
Education at Delaware State University and Continuing Education Units are
available.
