This one-day postgraduate conference will be held at the Institute of Historical Research on July 12, 2001.
The conference aims to provide a creative forum for postgraduate discussion and debate. We are interpreting desire as a vehicle for a range of aspirations throughout history and the themes that will be covered during the course of the day include theories of consumption, material culture, homoerotic desire, desire for space and gendered ambition.
A keynote session will focus on the representation and mapping of desire and includes a visual presentation by artist Helen Scalway and a discussion of her latest work.
Tickets are priced at £5 (including lunch) and the conference is open to any students or lecturers interested in this theme. Deadline for ticket applications - 27 June 2001
