I am putting together a panel on the topic of cross-cultural patronage of Asian art to be considered for the next AAS conference in New England. The potential papers should discuss the ways in which Asian artists from the late 19th Century to today react to the aesthetic prejudices, demands, and expectations of collectors, museums, dealers outside of their own countries, within Asia or in the West. Did the artists alter their styles or subject matter to better suit the art market abroad? Those interested in joining the prospective panel, please send a page-long abstract by May 28th.
