GARCIA MARQUEZ AND THE LATIN TRADITION
The Fifth Congress of the Americas is being held at University of the
Americas-Puebla, in Puebla, Mexico, on October 18-20, 2001. Presenters will
be converging on the city from throughout Latin America, the United States,
Europe, and Asia. The program and panels tend to be both multi-disciplinary
and interdisciplinary, and panels and individual papers may either explore
aspects of the conference theme, "Civil Society in the Americas: Challenges
and Opportunities"; this strand will explore various aspects of Garcia
Marquez, Super Realism, or the Latin Tradition.
Examples of topics might include: myths and legends, fusing reality and magic
in literature, political and/or social and/or economic problems in Latin
America. Participants might examine Marquez's use of home, family,
traditions, etc.
