New York quarterly publication for artists takes as its next theme "BORDERS AND BEYOND." We seek one artist/scholar to write a brief article discussing the theme as it relates to the arts in Kenya, or the surrounding region of Africa, today. (The essay will accompany a short report about a cultural internet project in Kenya, which was assisted--and will be reported--by a white American.) This could deal with geographical borders, boundaries between disciplines, the cutting edge of one or more discipline, or other kinds of borders. We prefer concrete references to illustrate, or in stead of, broad abstract generalizations, and we prefer complex theory to be translated into accesible language.
Maximum 1,000 words.
Modest compensation in the $100 range.
Please respond with suggestion ASAP. High quality draft due May 1, 2001.
People of color are especially encouraged to submit.
