This conference aims to bring together specialists of Great Britain, Germany and North America to re-examine the legacy of the George Circle in German intellectual and cultural history. We are particularly (but not exclusively) interested in papers discussing the politics of the Circle during the interwar period, e.g. in relation to:
- German academe and _Wissenschaft_
- the youth movement
- Weber/Benjamin/Heidegger/Schmitt
- the _voelkisch_ movement
- Rilke/Hofmannsthal/Borchardt
- the Conservative Revolution
- Nietzsche/Nietzscheanism
- Fascism/Nazism
- Catholicism/Judaism
- the German state
- philhellenism
- women/gender
Proposals should be submitted in English. Graduate students working on their dissertations or Master's theses are encouraged to participate.
