2001 HARVARD INTERDISCIPLINARY GRADUATE GENDER STUDIES CONFERENCE
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, MARCH 2-3, 2001
You are cordially invited to attend the 2001 Harvard Interdisciplinary
Graduate Gender Studies Conference, to be held March 2-3, 2001. The
conference will be held at Dudley House, in the Harvard Yard, and is free
and open to the public. Sessions begin at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 2, and

Graduate Student Papers

More than 40 graduate students from North America and Europe will present
papers approaching gender studies from a range of academic disciplines.
Panel topics include gender and reproductive technology; gender and
war; gender and sexual identity; gender and religion; gender and the
family; gender, class, and work; gender and mass media; gender and
pedagogy; gender and activism; gender and visual culture; gender and
space; and gender and post-colonial studies.

Keynote Address
----------------------
Judith Halberstam, Professor of Literature at the University of
California, San Diego, and author of works including Female Masculinity
and Posthuman Bodies, will present the keynote address, "In the Back of
Beyond: Brandon Teena and the Politics of Space," at 5:30 pm on Saturday,
March 3.

Faculty Guest Panel
--------------------
A special Harvard faculty guest panel on "The Experience of Gender Studies
in Academe," to be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, March 2, will feature Laurel
Thatcher Ulrich (History), Jane Fountain (Public Policy, KSG), and Charis
Thompson (History of Science). The panel will be moderated by Susan
Pedersen, Professor of History and Dean of Undergraduate Education.

Luncheon

From 12:30-1:30 pm on Saturday, March 3, the Radcliffe Graduate Consortium
in Women's Studies will sponsor a free luncheon for Boston-area graduate
students to discuss the academic needs of those interested in gender
studies in the Boston area.
