President Vaclav Havel initiated a discussion on Prague Castle some years ago, nevertheless it was not successful. Then, I was asked by the Director of Prague Castle to start up such public discussion on internet. It functions since the beginning of November, 2000, alas, until now in Czech only (http.//diskuse.hrad.cz/).

I write you as animator of this discussion. In the Archive, there is a complete study on the symbolic traditions of Prague Castle from 1996, a team work which I coordinated. Many participants of the actual discussion are students.

Prague Castle is the very symbol of Czech nation. Is it adequate to have such monumental complex of historical buildings as a site of the head of a democratic state? It is one of discussed questions.

What is wonderful is the fact that it is just this head of state who initiated this debate. I do not know any analogical project in the world.

I would like to invite to this discussion bohemists and, maybe, slavists, all over the world. I am able to communicate not only Czech and Slovak, but also Russian and Polish (not to talk about English and German). If you express your interest to discuss in English, I will publish your messages and, at the same time, it could support the original idea of Prgaue Castle to publish the discussion paralelly in Czech and English.

Bi-annual meeting of the most active and creative participants of the discussion is planned.
