Sixty Years On - The Fall of Singapore Revisited: A Conference to Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of this Major Event of the Second World War
The Department of History, National University of Singapore, is sponsoring an international historical conference, Sixty Years On-The Fall of Singapore Revisited, on February 14 and 15, 2002. The conference will be a comprehensive reevaluation of all aspects of this historical event.
Topics welcomed include, but are not limited to, prewar controversies over the naval base and the "Singapore strategy," Japanese and British preparations for war, grand strategy and strategy, command and commanders, the role of civil government, the civilian experience, local and expatriate, intelligence and espionage, the Malayan campaign, air and naval operations, the Australian and Indian experiences, the fall of Singapore, repercussions and postmortems, then and now. Papers presenting up to date primary research are especially welcomed; publication of proceedings is intended.
