Since 1993, Intercultural Dimensions’ educational travel program Crossing Cultures has introduced people to the French-speaking West African country of Senegal. In a three-week program limited to eight people and custom-tailored to individual interests, participants visit different parts of the country and community projects, stay with Senegalese families or in guest houses, use public transportation and experience village life. Extended stays to do a field study or volunteer work can be arranged. The 2001 program dates are: June 25 - July 18.
Past participants have included social workers, a poet, a playwright, elementary and secondary school teachers, college professors, graduate and undergraduate students from Boston University, Brandeis University, Brown University, Colby College, Connecticut College, George Washington University, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Oberlin College, Simmons College, Syracuse University, the University of Oregon and the University of Utah.
A college credit option is available through the Center for Alternative Studies, North Shore Community College, Danvers, MA.
