The conference aims to provide a creative forum for postgraduate discussion and debate. We are interpreting desire as a vehicle for a range of aspirations throughout history, including ambition for power, religious desire, material consumption, sexual passion and desire for physical space. We welcome proposals focusing on these, or similar themes, from research postgraduates working in historical or related disciplines. This conference is organised by the conveners of the postgraduate seminar (Institute of Historical Research) and will be held at the IHR on July 12 2001.
