At Bell & Howell Information and Learning, we are looking for input on some new initiatives that we are developing for 2001. We will be holding focus groups for History faculty, and we would greatly appreciate it if you would forward this message to any person in your institution who may be attending American Historical Association (AHA) in January 2001 in Boston, MA. Thank you.

On January 5th and 6th 2001 during the American Historical Association's annual conference in Boston (http://www.theaha.org), Bell & Howell Information and Learning (formerly UMI) will hold the following focus groups to gain a better understanding of scholar's needs and to gather feedback on the content and functionality of our recent initiatives. Breakfast will be served during the focus group followed by a short presentation and group discussion.
Friday, January 5, 2001
7:30am to 8:30 am
Location information to follow
Space is limited to 10 participants.
During this focus group we would like to discuss the research needs of early modern studies faculty, as well as ways in which digital resources such as Early English Books Online™ (EEBO) and The Gerritsen Collection™ could be used in a classroom setting.
The Gerritsen Collection - Women's History Online, a collection representing 400 years of women's history originated by Aletta Jacobs Gerritsen, delivers the collection's two million page images exactly as they appeared in the original printed works.
EEBO currently provides digital page images of the works listed in Pollard & Redgrave's Short-Title Catalogue, Wing's Short-Title Catalogue, and the Thomason Tracts.
If you will be at AHA next month, and would like to join us, please email Sharon.cassell@bellhowell.infolearning.com. We look forward to hearing your feedback on these initiatives. If you cannot make the focus group, please stop by the ProQuest booth, and we will be happy to explain our projects in greater depth.

During this focus group we would like to discuss the research needs of Historians and American History faculty and the ways digital resources might be used in the classroom. We are currently working on an online database to cover multiple aspects of American History to be released to libraries next year. This online resource will consist of diverse resources from the UMI microfilm vault, including historic newspapers and periodicals, monographs, maps, and other collections.
We would like your help to ensure that this initiative meets the research needs of you and your students.
